Projects on My Mind…

Finishing the wedding gift for a friend! Made a mini mixing bowl and painted + carved their wedding flowers on it. Will upload a picture of the final product but am very excited about this one but trying to manage my expectations…so many things can go wrong during glazing T_T - currently bisque fired (made 2 pieces just in case) and need to figure out what glaze I want to use + how to cover the design effectively, maybe liquid latex? I don’t have liquid latex but I hope the studio does…

I also made two blates recently and painted one with small flowers and one with tomatoes that ended up looking like oranges. Excited to see how these turn out! For the ones with brown flowers I think a simple clear glaze will look nice, or wax resist the outside flowers and use “Leather” on the outside + clear on the inside.

Saw these onion savers the other day and thought it would be cute to make this! An onion version and maybe a lemon one for fun. I also saw this air dry clay trinket box [gazoo studio] on YouTube and want to see if I can make something similar! Maybe a a fruit tart would be cute!!

I made the salt jars to practice repetitive forms a while ago (more than a month?) and I need to glaze them and gift them before September! Not sure what kind of glaze combos I want to use but I did bring these bisqued ones back home in case I did want to use underglaze but not sure… The two glazes I have at home are 2 Laguna glazes (a baby pinkish one and baby blue one) so maybe will use those? Still need to think about it.

Update: I threw some bowls

but i’m not totally completely happy with them. I have been trying to practice repetitive forms as my next level up in ceramics but that has been so difficult. It would probably help if I was more exact with my measurements (throwing gauge, chopstick trick, etc.) but have been just “eyeing" it and I don’t think that’s been very successful. I did have a better throwing day than yesterday (Can’t Throw Bowls). I think the problem yesterday was the malleability of the clay—it was too hard [literally]. I reclaimed a bunch of clay yesterday and today (I actually emptied my bucket which was incredible satisfying) which left me with much softer clay to work with. I ended up carving the bowls from yesterday: a ginko leaf bowl and one with dandelions and leaves. I actually hate dandelions in my yard but they were easy to carve. There is pressure to make drawings/paintings/any other additional decoration on ceramics look good but also there is less pressure than a drawing or painting because I am not (or rather, cannot be) attached to whatever I’m making in case it turns out terrible or something goes wrong along the way.

I tried to throw identical “raised” plates and they are similar but the donut foot of one is clearly bigger than the other. To be fair, at some point there was an air bubble in the plate with the smaller donut that kind of made one of the donut walls very thin, so I did the best I could with what I had. I threw a matcha bowl as well just for funsies.

Can’t Throw Bowls

Bowls

Bowls ✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

^^ The two bowls that made it

BOWLS. I cannot seem to throw an even bowl. I threw around seven or eight today and none of them turned out the way I wanted and only one survived (and even that took sheer will to save). I threw some at the studio today and even some at home and they were all prone to a weird wobble. Sometimes if I don’t throw for a while I need to re-learn how to center and position my body etc. but today was a very off throwing day.

Carved some dandelions and ginko leaves on bowls~
